You now know that I am on a mission to “clean up” our diet and live a life that is more wholesome, and less filled with chemicals. My passion wants to take a large garbage container, set it up in front of the fridge and start dumping. My wallet says , “um…I don’t think so”! What is a lady to do? Well, for starters, as I finish up a salad dressing or condiment, I will replace it with a health conscious version. For example here is a recipe for an incredible salad dressing:
Julie’s Salad Dressing kindly supplied to me many moons ago from the Owner of Heaven on Earth in Qualicum Beach, B.C.
- 2 c. olive oil or 1 c. olive oil plus 1 c. flax oil
- 1/4 cup organic apple cider vinegar
- 2-3 tbsp. Spike Seasonings
- 2 crushed cloves of garlic
- 1 tbsp. stone ground mustard
- 1-2 tbsp. oregano*
- 1-2 tbsp. thyme*
- 2 tbsp. dill weed*
- 1 tbsp. Tamari Sauce
- Place all ingredients in a jar and shake well, or whip up mixture in a blender. Refrigerate.
- *Any herbs that you like most work well.
I used to make this when my children were little, then extreme laziness took over – I mean how difficult was this recipe to whip up??? Have you looked at the ingredients list on your favourite bottled dressings? Ewwwwwww!
On my mission to “clean up our diet” I will be focusing on using up what I have already purchased, and then looking for recipes that I can make up fresh. There are many sites on the internet to check out for starters, we don’t need to go it alone.
Another idea would be to start talking to your friends about what changes you are going to make in the New Year and brainstorm together. You will be amazed at the resources our closest friends have available, and how many times we are all on the same page.
